I was super excited for this month’s Fairyloot box as I’d guessed what the book was and it’s one of my most anticipated releases of the year!
Fairyloot is a UK-based YA fantasy subscription box. If you subscribe, you get a box a month which includes a hardback book and 5-6 exclusive goodies around a theme.

The theme for August is ‘Let The Games Begin’, though I’m not really sure how the items connect to this theme. Perhaps there are more subtle connections that someone who has read the books the items are inspired by would understand? Also, this unboxing photo is missing an item as I took out the bath bomb straight away because the smell was so strong!

Aurora Rising pin designed by @ironandinkdesigns – This pin is inspired by Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff which is one of my favourite books so I love this item!
Scythe magnet designed by @taratjah – I haven’t read Scythe by Neal Shusterman, but I have a magnetic noticeboard so I do like getting magnets. But this does seem quite simply made and I feel like they could have done something more interesting with the finish.

Mia & Mr. Kindly metal bookmark designed by @taratjah – This is a really nice bookmark and even though I haven’t read Nevernight by Jay Kristoff, I feel like I can appreciate this item since I love cats.

Prince Dracula hardcover notebook with cover designed by @noverantale and artwork by @taratjah – This notebook is gorgeous! The Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco is really popular and I want to read it at some point as it sounds really good.

Golden egg bath bomb by @littleheartgifts – This is my least favourite item as I don’t use bath bombs. I also don’t like getting them in these boxes because the smell is often so strong. It was particularly bad with this box. The perfume smell, even before opening the box, was overwhelming.

Laia & Elias book sleeve designed by @monolimeart – An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir sounds amazing and is high up on my TBR list, so I’m looking forward to meeting these characters. Fairyloot’s book sleeves are always great as they come with a zip and you can also fit big books in them.

This month’s tarot cards are designed by Katherine Britt and are inspired by Nevernight by Jay Kristoff.

The featured book of the month is Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar! This exclusive edition has shimmery sprayed edges, artwork on the reverse of the dust jacket by @bxromance and is signed by the author. There is also artwork on the back of the author letter but it doesn’t say on the spoiler card who the artwork is by.

Overall I liked this box, though the magnet did seem like a filler item and not as well thought out as the others. The book is absolutely gorgeous and my favourite item is the notepad.
