I’ve not done much blogging or blog hopping in the last week as I’ve just been feeling so tired and drained. Hopefully I’ll start feeling a bit better soon and can get back to posting more regularly!

RECENTLY FINISHED – Lore by Alexandra Bracken

I loved this book! There were plenty of twists and I was hooked all the way through. I loved the way the author weaved Ancient Greek mythology into the lore of the book and there were so many details that made it come to life.

CURRENTLY READING – The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

I’m 25% of the way through this so far. It’s a monster of a book but I’m really enjoying it. There are several different plot strands and I’m intrigued to see how it all comes together.

RECENTLY FINISHED

The Prison Healer by Lynette Noni – I was really disappointed with this one. I finished it last week but I still haven’t finished my review because I need to work out how to say what I want to say about it.

Gut Feelings by C. G. Moore – This was an emotional read for me as I could relate to the main character’s experience of chronic illness. I’d really recommend it. You can read my review here.

CURRENTLY READING – Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare

Gut Feelings was brilliant, but also a little hard for me to read as it brought back a lot of memories of my times in hospital. So I picked something by a favourite author next that I knew would be a fun read.

NEXT READ – Lore by Alexandra Bracken

I love Greek mythology so I’m really excited for this one!

RECENTLY FINISHED – Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

It’s a little while since I read a classic and I really enjoyed this one. I loved the family dynamics and seeing how the girls changed as they grew up over the course of the book.

CURRENTLY READING – The Midnight Star by Marie Lu

I am finally reading the last book in the Young Elites trilogy! I loved the first two books but it’s a while since I read them. I’ve nearly finished The Midnight Star and I have no idea how it’s going to end but I’m afraid it’ll break my heart!

NEXT READ – Crownchasers by Rebecca Coffindaffer or Goddess in the Machine by Lora Beth Johnson

I’ve not made my mind up what to read next yet, but it’s been a while since I read a scifi book so I will probably pick one of these two.

RECENTLY FINISHED

A Dark and Hollow Star by Ashley Shuttleworth – I found the first half quite slow, but got much more into it in the second half and ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would at the start. I loved the worldbuilding and characters. You can find my review here.

The Frozen Crown by Greta Kelly – I only just finished reading this book last night and it ended on a massive twist! While I liked it, I didn’t love it, but I haven’t decided yet what star rating I’m going to give it. I’ll be posting a review soon.

NEXT READ – Blood & Honey by Shelby Mahurin

I’ve seen so many mixed reviews for this book, and since I loved Serpent & Dove, I’ve been a bit nervous about reading this one because I really don’t want to be disappointed! I’m hoping it will be good!

I’m Finally Reading Twilight

twilight-meyer

From reading Dracula last week, I’m going the complete reversal on vampire books by reading Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It’s not something I would choose to read, but I have been curious to read it for a long time to see what it’s really like. Since it’s on the reading list for the Children’s Literature module I’m taking for my degree, I now get the pleasure of finally finding out.

My knowledge of this book is based solely on the various claims from both sides of the argument – Twilight fans and Twilight haters – and the films. Having heard that the books are better than the films, I’ve tried not to let my dislike of the films cloud my judgement over the first book in the series. This is easier said than done though, as I’ve found it difficult to separate myself from all the things I’ve heard about it and form my own opinion through reading it. It seems to be impossible to be unbiased because it’s just such a famous book and people have said a lot of negative things about it. I can’t help but wonder whether I would like or dislike it if there wasn’t all that surrounding it, if it were just a book I’d picked up off the shelf that I hadn’t really heard of and didn’t have any preconceptions about. That’s something we’ll never know so I’ll just have to attempt to be as objective as possible and take it at face value as well as I can.

I’m about halfway through currently, and although it started out fine, things have gone dramatically downhill in the last few chapters. Full review to come when I’ve finished reading it!
